IPTV Multiple Connections: How Many Screens Do You Need?

Key takeaway: In IPTV, one connection means one screen watching at the same time. Count the people who watch at once, not the number of devices, then choose a plan with that many connections and check that your internet can carry every stream together.

“How many connections do I need?” is one of the most common questions before buying IPTV, and getting it wrong is frustrating. Buy too few and someone sees an error the moment two people press play. Buy too many and you pay for screens nobody uses.

This guide explains what IPTV multiple connections are, how to work out the right number for your home, how much internet speed several streams need, which partner plans offer one to five connections, and what to do when you hit the limit.

What is an IPTV connection?

A connection is one stream playing at the same time. If your plan has one connection, one screen can watch at a time. With three connections, three screens can play different channels at once.

The important word is at the same time. A connection is not tied to one device:

  • You can usually install your login on several devices, such as the living-room TV, a bedroom stick and a phone.
  • With a one-connection plan, only one of them can play at any moment. 8K IPTV Group’s pricing page says exactly this: a one-device plan can be installed on several devices, but only one can watch at a time.
  • When a second device starts playing, the provider’s server refuses the stream or stops the first one.

How many connections do you need?

Count the most people who watch at the same moment on a busy evening, not the number of TVs in the house.

HouseholdTypical peakConnections to choose
Single viewerOne screen1
Couple who sometimes watch apartTwo screens2
Family of three or fourThree screens on busy nights3 to 4
Large family or shared houseEveryone at once during big events5

A few extra tips:

  • Phones and tablets count too. If someone watches on a phone in bed while the TV is on, that is two connections.
  • Plan for big nights. Match days and finales are when everyone watches at once.
  • Start lower and upgrade later if you are not sure; many providers let you add screens.

Internet speed for multiple connections

Every connection is a separate stream, so your broadband has to carry all of them together. As a rough guide, allow about 10 Mbps for each Full HD stream and about 25 Mbps for each 4K stream, and keep some headroom for everything else on your network.

Screens at onceFull HD4K
1About 10 MbpsAbout 25 Mbps
2About 20 MbpsAbout 50 Mbps
3About 30 MbpsAbout 75 Mbps
5About 50 MbpsAbout 125 Mbps

Test the speed on the TV itself in the evening, not on your phone next to the router; see speed test on Fire TV. If several screens buffer together, a wired connection for the main TV helps; see Fire TV Ethernet adapter.

“Max connections reached”: what it means and how to fix it

If you see “max connections reached” or “too many connections”, your account is already streaming on as many screens as your plan allows. According to 8K IPTV Group’s guide to the error, common causes and fixes are:

  1. Another screen is playing. Stop playback on the other devices.
  2. An app is still running in the background. Pressing Home does not always end the stream; force stop the player app.
  3. The last stream has not timed out yet. Wait one or two minutes after switching devices, then try again.
  4. Someone else is using your login. Ask the provider’s support to reset your password.
  5. You simply need more screens. Upgrade to a plan with more connections.

FAQ

Can I use one IPTV connection on two TVs?

You can install it on both, but only one can play at a time. To watch on both at once, you need two connections.

Does a phone count as a connection?

Yes. Any device that is playing a stream uses one connection while it plays.

Do more connections need faster internet?

Yes. Each screen is a separate stream, so allow about 10 Mbps per Full HD stream and about 25 Mbps per 4K stream.

Can I add connections later?

Usually yes. 8K IPTV Group, for example, offers 1 to 5 screens on every plan length. Ask the provider how upgrades work before you buy.

Is the free trial multi-screen?

Most trials cover one device. Test on your main TV, then choose the number of connections when you buy.
